The data present the original images recorded as photoquadrats from the reefs of St. John from 1987 - present. Image up until (and including) 2000 were recorded on color film and were digitized; all other images were collected digitally with resolutions that changed with upgraded camera technology. All images are provided as jpegs, which most end users will find useful to support new analyses. More recent images are also available as RAW files (Nikon format) that can be used for more manipulations of quality. Detailed field methodology is described in the papers published from this site, for example: Edmunds PJ (2013) Marine Ecology Progress Series 489: 107-123, Edmunds PJ and Smith TB (2022) Marine Biology 169: 60, Edmunds PJ (2019) Ecology e02587
Problems/issues: Some irregular number of quadrats were samples at some sites in some years.
Funding note: The most recent funding for this time series was provided by NSF award OCE-2019992 for project "RUI: Pattern and process in four decades of change on Caribbean reefs." The "Project" and "Funding Sources" sections of this page list also include past awards that directly funded this dataset.
